Description

An Art Deco period opalescent glass bowl by Rene Lalique. The coquilles pattern is perhaps the most recognisable of the Lalique designs from the early 20th century and an iconic period design. It manages to combine geometric lines and round forms producing a lovely effect in the opalescent glass. The blue tones show up well on a black ground with a strong light, and when back lit on a light ground instead you get the fiery opal tones.

This bowl is the standard coupe form and has the pattern number 3201 etched below the Lalique mark. The R Lalique France mark is wheel engraved on this example to the central spot. It dates to the 1920's during the peak of the Art Deco period.

Condition

Very good order for period. Slight wear and scratches. A small moulding flaw from production where one of the lines caught the mould wall during removal and created a little scuff to the underside, illustrated in the images.
