Description

A solid silver twin sovereign case dating to 1913.  It dates to the reign of George V and just before the outbreak of WWI.  It is of rectangular shape with softened corners and slightly domed top and bottom.  It is chased with an acanthus style leaf pattern to both sides and has a spring latch for opening.  There is a loop for attaching to a fob chain etc and the sovereign cannisters are spring loaded.  The hallmark is for Birmingham 1913 and the makers mark is for Boots (the chemists), with the full title being Boots Pure Drug Company at this period.  Rather unlikely though it seems, during the early 20th century Boots (still thriving today of course) sold a range of small silver items along with their usual ranges, this seemed to fade out around 1923.  A great find for the collector of Boots silver and sovereign cases.

Condition

Exterior good with only minor rubbing and hinge and opening clasp fine.  Internally slight bending to the edges of the coin retainers through use.
