Description

A Japanese Meiji period satsuma ware vase dating around 1880. Lovely fine pattern decoration with excellent detail in a multitude of different forms. Some of the decoration is raised as is some of the gilding giving texture and extra dimension to the work. The main panels features characters perhaps in a scholarly setting. There are no makers marks which is not unusual for 19th century examples especially from the Awata and Kyoto regions where this item originated.

Condition

Slight rim graze and associated tiny nick. Gilding and decoration to body very good with very little wear for the age. Minor kiln frit to base from production, overall a lovely example.
