Description

A 19th century Middle Eastern Qajar style pottery vase. It is decorated with two faces in shaped reserves with two further floral panels. There is a green wash to the ground outside the panels with further floral detail and there is a band of fish around the upper shoulders, a common motif for period pieces. As you can see it is rustic in form as typical for such pieces and the ridge lines to the interior from the potters fingers are very visible. The glaze is thick in places and crystalline in others and some of the underglaze colours have run. This is one of the charms of these pieces and is caused by relatively uncontrolled firing, there is also a nice crackle to the glaze adding extra texture. Foot and part of the rim are unglazed, the interior is glazed on this example.

Condition

A rustic piece, but all the flaws appear to be natural and from production rather than later damage. View the images for overall look and exterior condition.
