T J & J Mayer Antique Victorian Moulded Parian Ware Jug 'The Family' c1850 (Code 2818)

Description

A mid 19th century moulded jug by T J & J Mayer dating circa 1850.  It is known as 'The Family' design and was originally thought to be depicting scenes from 'Paul & Virginia' (novel by Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre - published in 1788).  The stippled ground has a blue glaze and the rest of the jug exterior is left in the natural parian form.  It is marked No97 to the base which was their part number for this design, each colourway had a different number.  No makers marks but a well referenced and known design.

Condition

Good for period, slight firing and glaze flaws to exterior from production including a tiny fissure in the kneeling females nose.  Surface firing tear to interior base from production, not visible to exterior nor affecting function.  Very minimal wear give the age.
