Description

An Art Deco period opalescent glass bowl by Rene Lalique of France.  This design is known as Fleurons with spiral arms of opalescence and ribbed strands.  The name translates as 'flower' usually used in the stylised form.  The bowl is of shallow form and the sides quickly flatten out to a broad rim known as the coupe ouverte shape.  It has the acid etched form of the R Lalique mark with 'France' below.  It dates to the 1920's during the height of the Art Deco movement.

As you can see from the images Lalique's opalescent glass displays beautifully on black with a strong light bringing out the blues.  With a strong back light on a light ground you get the fiery tones with more subtle oranges and yellows.

Condition

Good order, minor wear and the odd light scratch as expected for the age.
