Antique Japanese Kutani Porcelain Shishi Temple Guardian Lion-Dog Komainu 狛犬 (Code 2838)

Description

A Kutani region Japanese Shishi, lion dog type with closed mouth.  Porcelain body and gorgeous sea blue glaze which almost looks liquid in places.  It rests on a gilded blass with traditional patterns.  Nicely moulded and with good detail, late Meiji or Taisho period.  Unmarked.

Condition

Some wear to the gilt.  Minor potting/firing flaws but nothing problematic.  Age related crazing.
