Antique Hand Made Pine Wood Savings/Money Box with Fretwork for Muriel 1920 (Code 1223)
A wooden money or savings box with fretwork detail and dedication to Muriel. The box looks to be made from pine and has hand cut dovetail joints. It was likely amateur made by a talented woodworker. The fretwork panels give a date of 1920 to the top (cut through with the slot), 'Muriel' to the front panel and the month 'June' to the reverse. There is a slot in the top for coins and it has brass hinges and a brass lock. The lock doesn't work but does come with key for decorative purposes. Inside the lid are pencil writings and you can make out 'Rates', 'Coal', 'Elec' and 'Ins' with numbers in shillings, suggesting it was used as a savings box. A nice rustic style small box which could be used for many purposes, and if 'Muriel' is a significant name to you then it's even better.
Plenty of patina build up with the usual marks, scratches etc as you would expect to see. A piece of decorative fretwork missing from the top. A lateral shrinkage split in the wood to the reverse panel. Key rotates in lock but the catches don't snap over. See images for overall surface condition.
