Antique Victorian Rosewood Letter/Correspondence Box with Lock & MOP Inlay c1850 (Code 2872)
A two division Victorian period correspondence box dating around 1850. It has two divisions for answered and unanswered letters. The top is set with mother of pearl inlay and there is a decorative 'egg' band around the top of the lid. There is also a lock which is working and a board divider to the interior.
The interior is finished with dotted paper in blue and there are two small brass hinges for the lid. The box is in rosewood with nice grain detail as you can see in the images.
Lock and hinges good. Presents well with normal age related wear and marks. Minor splits in the veneer but nothing significant. Loss of veneer to back corner. Interior worn and probably repainted, divider loose and appears to have been repapered and had added dots.
