Description

A fine Japanese bronze and mixed metal Meiji period vase.  It has an interesting form of multiple disc shapes rather like a wood turning.  The main body has two panels one with a bird and the other with a monkey or ape eating fruit.  There are silver and yellow metal inlays and tracery patterns in silver.  The rim is broad and flaring and has chased detail inside the rim.  The bronze is also patinated in differing shades as can be seen.  The plinth base is cast separately and joined using a bolt, typical of production from the 2nd half of the 19th century.  There are some marks inside the base, however they are unclear and may well be tooling marks from the foundry rather than a casting or artists mark.  It is a fine quality piece and an unusual form.

Condition

Good for period, minor wear and rubbing.  A few spots of discolouration typical for the age.
