Antique Victorian Gold, Chalcedony & Carved Agate 2nd Period Mourning Brooch (Code A1043)
A Victorian period gold brooch set with a translucent chalcedony oval. To the centre of this is set a carved agate lozenge in the form of a flower, possibly a forget me not. The lozenge is of near black ground and the carved back area is white. The brooch was likely used as mourning jewellery for the second period of mourning. The gold work is of ribbon style and it has a traditional hinged pin and clasp. There are no marks which is quite common for such items and the gold tests at about 12 carat.
- Height : 24mm
- Width : 28.3mm
- Material : 12ct gold /chalcedony/agate
