Vintage Mid Century Scottish 9ct Gold & Moss Agate Cabochon Brooch Edinburgh (Code A899)

Description

A vintage Scottish 9ct gold brooch with a polished moss agate cabochon.  It has delicate filigree work and a rope twist border.  The moss agate cabochon is held away from the body in a claw setting. The moss agate is a particularly nice piece with carnelian and agate which are the red sections.  You probably won't be able to see without a microscope but a patch within the carnelian has druzy quartz crystals contained within a small section.   The reverse has an Edinburgh hallmark although the date letter is unclear but possibly for 1959 and the brooch is certainly mid century in design.  To the reverse is a pin with roll over safety catch.

Condition:  The safety roll over catch is a replacement which has been soldered to the back and is not gold.  This likely done to replace a broken clasp.  Otherwise very good with slight wear.
