Description

A near pair of Japanese Satsuma ware vases likely dating to the Taisho period.  They are in the Kyo-yaki style painted with acer leaves and a landscape scenic with pagoda style buildings.  Note the slightly different profile with one a little fatter than the other.  It is possible they were assembled as a pair later in time, but both carry the same signature and were made around the same time.  The bases are signed for Bizan which was a workshop decorating blanks and noted for producing some very high quality wares during the Meiji period.

Condition

Very good for period with minor wear.  Slight underglaze marks from production and typical for such pieces.  The crazing is of course an intentional part of Satsuma ware.
