Description

A beautifully hand painted plate featuring Ptarmigan in a Scottish winter setting.  It was painted by Joseph Hancock for Royal Doulton and is signed by the artist as well as having the Doulton marks to the reverse.  The plate has a wavy gilt finished rim with dot line.  The ground is a creamy white with four birds and a hill peak and the background.  Joseph Hancock was noted as one of the finest of the Doulton painters and worked on many of their most prestigious hand painted pieces including sets for Tiffany and other famous clients.

The registered design number to the reverse refers to the plate shape and dates this item from around 1892 making it late Victorian in period.  A great find for the Hancock collector.

Condition

Very minor wear and a small number of light scratches to the face.  A few very small glaze pops from production.  Gilt is very good for period.  Signature and printed marks clear and legible.
