Description

This glass is a Bohemian example from the early 19th century around 1820 or so.  It is in a very attractive kingfisher blue colour and has a gilded pattern around the bowl.  The stem and bowl are cut, the bowl has scale cutting with panels above and the stem has diamond facets.   The foot is conical.  Although in the UK stemware was largely clear, on the continent there was far more emphasis on colour and decoration.  The European facet stem series are generally considered to lag in date compared to English examples, so whereas a tall facet stem glass from England would be c1780 to 1800 the Bohemian ones are likely 1810-1830.  The gilt is a classical pattern and remarkably well preserved, the gilt is easily rubbed off through use and cleaning so few examples remain with the majority of the pattern surviving.  The colour of this example is also less common with green being what you normally see.

Condition

The gilt pattern is remarkably well preserved around the bowl with some rubbing at the rim and the edges.  Slight frits at some of the cut points.  Trapped air bubble in the foot.
