Antique Clichy Swirl Glass Jug & Bowl Set in Aqua Blue - French 2nd Empire c1870 (Code 2028)

A 19th century jug and bowl set, perhaps for strawberries (cream and sugar) by Clichy. Classic form for this factory with blue and white canes and clear between. The light aqua blue gives a bright freshness to the pair and they would date around 1870. The pontil scars have been ground and polished out. As expected for Clichy they are made from glass canes (in a similar way to paperweights) rather than flat glass strips, the texture of these can be felt to the inside of the bowl. Unmarked as expected, but a known Clichy design. Diamond scratched number or character to the base of the jug, perhaps a batch number, but largely illegible.


Condition

Both in good order, small internal flaw or perhaps shell bruise under the pontil scar to the jug base.
