Description

A 19th century Indian vizagapatam card case with a geometric design. It has a illusory central design which gives a 3d effect and can change depending on how you view or squint at it. This example has a slide off lid rather than being hinged, and this is a common feature of the vizagapatam pieces. The interior is made of sandalwood and along with the cubic style inlay there is also micro-mosaic patterning. A very attractive piece for the collector.



Condition

Generally very good for period, some minor flaws and tiny losses and one of the mosaic triangles missing to the border, see image 4 towards the base.
