Exquisite Antique Indian Deccan / Kashmir Chased Silver Paan Daan Betel Nut Box (Code 1834)
A particularly fine quality small paan daan box for betel nuts in chased silver. The decoration is exquisite with chased detail and oxide infill largely in red, the small scale making this look even more impressive in the hand. The decorative style suggests it was likely from the Kashmir or Deccan region in the mid 19th century. It is unmarked but tests as Sterling silver grade and is of substantial weight for it's size. This box would likely have been used for the nut itself and has a small eyelet at the top perhaps for hanging from a small chain. Probably the finest quality paan daan box you are going to see in a very long time.
Top and decorative faces very good with minor wear. Eyelet to the top canted over somewhat. Underside of the base with some indents.
