Description

A 19th century Japanese porcelain vase in the Imari palette with mazarine blue, iron red and gilt detail.  Attractive double gourd form, the silhouette reminiscent of the happy Buddha.  It is decorated with round and fan shaped panels with stylised flowers and patterned forms.  The decoration is hand painted, and the vase was hand thrown on a wheel.

It comes with a carved and turned hardwood stand which looks of period with the vase.  It dates to the late Edo or early Meiji period.

Condition

The vase very good for period, slight glaze scrapes to rim, wear to the gilt and kiln grit adhered to the base from production.  Stand has damages and repairs and is missing one leg.
