Antique Royal Worcester Wyvern Handle Ivory Glaze Scale Jug / Vase - Victorian (Code 2788)

Description

An antique Royal Worcester ivory coloured glaze jug.  The handle is formed in the shape of a wyvern and intentionally given an antique looking finish.  The body has a scale pattern and raised floral and foliate design.

Somewhat unusually the Worcester mark has been forgotten and only the registered design number and body number are present.  The body (1028) is catalogued as first being produced in 1884 and is listed simply as 'Scale pattern jug'.  It is thus very likely the item dates to the close of the Victorian era.

Although in the shape of a jug this item was not meant for use and instead intended as a decorative vase.

Condition

Some loss of gilt around the foot and some wear of gilt to the rim.  The handle is intentionally glazed to look antique.  There are a couple of white patches to the reverse where the ivory glaze was missed or did not take.
