Description

An early Victorian silver jug, probably for milk at this size.  It has an octagonal body and is of very solid construction with thick walls and cast feet and handle.  It has a chased design to the body with typical period foliate forms.  There are two cartouches, one which is blank and the other is initialled possibly with 'GML'.

The hallmark is for London 1851 and include the head of the young Queen Victoria.  The makers mark is appears upside down compared to the hallmark (so should read WH) and is most likely for William Hunter.  A very nice example from the period.

Condition

Very good for age.  Some softening of the chased detail from polishing over the decades.  No significant knocks and no rub-through.  Normal light scratches.
