Antique James Dixon Silver, Glass & Leather Cased Saddle Flask of Tapered Form (Code 2505)

Description

A glass and silver saddle flask with leather hold by James Dixon & Sons.  It is of typical elongated conical shape with a high quality bayonet type cap with retaining hinge.  The case is of thick leather construction with stitched seams and a strap with metal buckle at the top.  No hallmark, but the mount tests as silver and has the makers mark and logo.  These items generally date c1880-1900 making them late Victorian in period.

Condition

Flask with scratches especially around the shoulders.  The leather with ageing, wear and marks.  Leather cap hinge cracked and aged.  Fastening tang to front of leather cap missing.  Flask is a tight fit in the holder requiring effort to remove.
