19th Century Antique Red Cut Glass Drinks Decanter with White Metal Collar (Code 1853)

  • £15500

Description

A 19th century Victorian era cut glass decanter dating around 1860. It is unusual in being produced in red glass, and it has been decorated all over with red lens cuts. It comes with the matching stopper which has a frosted finish giving contrast with the main body. It also has a white metal collar marked SP & Co. It is a well made and quality example, quite slender in form as was probably intended for white wine. The pontil has been completely ground and polished out of the base. The glass is quite a ruby tone, the images show it a little brighter due to the studio lighting.

Condition

A nice example, the stopper fits tightly. Minor period wear and slight frits at some of the cut edges
