A Fine Victorian Large Cut Glass Bowl with Decorative Rim - Antique Circa 1860 (Code 8277)
A large and heavy antique cut glass pedestal style bowl. It dates to the early Victorian period around 1850-60 and is of English production, possibly from the Richardsons factory. The bowl features an everted rim with decorative cutting done to a high standard.
The bowl may have been intended as a table centerpiece but would of course also make a fine fruit bowl or use simply as a decorative piece. The sides of the bowl are flute cut and this extends down through the foot giving it an octagonal form at the base. The underside of the base is also start cut.
A fine antique bowl with great look and of substantial construction, bound to make an impact when on display.
There are some chips and nibbles around the rim as inevitable with this type of item, but they are not to a level that would notice to a casual look or impeding of display. Otherwise minor wear and scratches to the interior. Plenty of old genuine wear to the foot. Overall good for period and a fine, imposing piece.
Height 18.5 cms (7.25 inches)
Width 26.5 cms (10.5 inches) across rim
