Description

A rare Georgian plain stem wine glass in amethyst coloured glass.  It has an ogee bowl which is moulded with vertical ribs.  The stem is plain and tapers a little at the top joint.  The foot is conical and has a rough snapped pontil.  It dates around 1760 and is made from lead glass.

It is a little thicker in the stem and a little larger in capacity than an average plain stem, and this fits in with other coloured examples suggesting they were made perhaps at a very small number of glass workshops.  This would also tie in with the scarcity.

Condition

Generally very good for period.  A couple of small glass pips (adhesions) to the interior of the bowl from production.  Some minor wear and scuffing to bowl exterior.  Wear to the footrim as expected.  Minor air bubbles and impurities in the material, typical for period. No signs of repolishing or restoration.
