A Pair of Coalport Kashmir Design Lidded Vase - Antique Victorian c.1870 (code 8011)
A fine pair of antique Coalport covered vases in the Kashmir design. Superbly detailed examples with rich gilt decoration over an apple green, iron red and cobalt blue ground. It also has raised gold jeweling around the central reserves and a small painted flower design to the center of the reserves.
Both vases carry the Coalport ampersand mark to the base and they date circa 1870. Lids are of matching decoration but are unmarked which is as you would expect for these items. One lid has restoration – see condition report below for more detail.
These items were expensive luxury pieces in their day due to the amount of work required in the decoration. This design is quite scarce and finding a pair still together is a great find.
Bodies of both vases in very good order with very little wear for their type. Colours and gilding strong and fresh. Marks to bases nice and clear.
One lid has been broken and professionally restored. This is shown in images 6 & 7. You can note the line of the restoration from the slightly darker gilt running around the cap and the rim has also been re-gilded. The other cap has a small bit of gilt re-touched around the rim but otherwise appears in fine order.
