A Royal Doulton Stoneware Jug with Tubelined Flowers and Enamel Detail (Code 8399)
An early 20th century Royal Doulton stoneware jug. The ground is textured like fine shark skin and has gilt highlights and it is probably from the chineware series. The body has tubelined detail and enamel jewelling. The interior of the rim is glazed in a green mottled tone.
The jug is of 'helmet' shape, a design which was originally popular during the Georgian period. The size is that of a milk jug, although generally these items were seen as decorative pieces or vases rather than utility ware.
To the underside is the Doulton mark and impressed details. There is also an incised signature mark, but it is a little hard to make out.
Good order for period. Minor gilt wear. Very small glaze chip to footrim.
Height 17 cms (6.75 inches)
