Description

A rare mid 19th century antique Nailsea scent bottle. It has 'pulled up' loop decoration in red and white over a clear ground. Single coloured loop examples are scarce but these double colour looped examples are very rare. It comes with its stopper which is quite a poor fit but certainly original (the stoppers for these items were free blown rather than ground in hence the shaky fit).

It is formed in the shape of a decanter but in smaller dimensions and would look very attractive on a dressing table or as part of a Nailsea collection.

Nailsea was a major glass making center during the late 18th century and throughout the 19th century. Although much of the production was of bottles and other everyday items other more interesting pieces were produced, of which loop decorated items are a distinctive feature.

Condition

Very good order for its age with just minor usage wear. End of stopper peg left in the rough finish from production. Stopper of relatively poor fit, typical for its type.
