An Antique Tunbridge Ware Box Inlaid with a Scene of Muckross Abbey (Code 8225)
A late 19th century antique Tunbridge ware box inlaid with a scene of Muckross Abbey. The box is of rectangular form and quite shallow, the interior is not divided so the box could be used for any number of purposes.
The box is finished in rosewood and the image of the abbey is set into a pale wood (probably satin). The outer lid has a geometric band and the lower box is just in the rosewood. The interior of the box is lined with mahogany panels which adds a nice finish and is a good sign of a quality piece.
The box has the original brass hinges, there is no lock and the box holds shut via friction. A nice looking example with many potential uses as well as for display. Cleaned, polished and ready for display.
Generally very good. Some normal shrinkage splits in the top veneer but otherwise no significant faults.
