Antique 19th Century Italian Classical Bronze Grand Tour Tazza with Amphitrite (Code 2207)
A 19th century Italian bronze tazza with saucer shaped bowl. The center has decorative relief work, probably with Amphitrite in the center surrounded by a repeating border including mask heads. There is a decorative knop in the stem with further mask heads and the parts are kept together with a threaded rod and bolt underneath. No makers mark, probably mid 19th century and likely a grand tour piece. Some rubbing of the patina to the rim has allowed the verdigris to develop in a descending band, there is further patina in the crevices of the decoration.
Some damage to the knop base where it joins the lower stem leading to a lean in one direction. Tiny indents around the rim which look a bit like knife marks. One short tight stress split to the rim, holding together tightly. Rust to bolt underneath. Superb patina.
