Antique Art Nouveau Etched Solid Silver Cigarette Case by Solomon Blackensee (Code 2274)
A solid silver cigarette case with Birmingham hallmark for 1920. Although just into the Deco period it keeps with the Art Nouveau style with a lovely swagged bow design and floral and foliate drops. The case is slightly kidney shaped to aid fitting into a pocket and the interior is gilded to resist tarnishing. The makers mark is for Solomon Blackensee of Birmingham, a well known and long standing silversmiths in the famous jewellery quarter. The case opens with a spring catch which is still very stiff. A great looking example, and although originally intended for cigarettes these items make fine business card cases.
Very good with light scratches and scuffs as expected. Slight knock to lift catch, opening mechanism fine but stiff. Elastics perished.
