Antique Arts & Crafts / Nouveau Sterling Silver and Enamel Tazza Dish c1900 (Code 2120)

  • £31500

A gorgeous early 20th century solid silver and enamel small tazza dish. It is in the Arts & Crafts style with definite overlap of the Art Nouveau influence. It is hand made, with the silver being hand beaten and the planishing marks are still visible to the base. It has five roundels of coloured enamel with a link twist repousse design in the metal between. It is quite substantial for the size with a good guage of silver used making it feel sturdy and not flimsy.

Oddly there are no makers or assay marks, but it tests as very high grade silver, Sterling or better. One of the roundels colour deviates from the others with a clear section, perhaps due to this it wasn't sent for assaying and hence remains unmarked. It has great style and the hand made look is very attractive.

Hand made and reflects this in the style compared to a factory produced piece. One roundel with a clear section of enamel instead of coloured. Crazing to the enamel roundels.
