Description
An early 20th century Cauldon china loving cup. It recreates the late 18th century style with the exotic birds in the Chinoiserie taste, rather like those you would see on Worcester around 1780. The loving cup has the Cauldon Ltd mark which gives it a date range from 1905-20 and is is a porcelanous body with fine white glaze. The handles bifurcate at the top join with the body and note the leaf form decorative style. The painting is hand done over a printed outline and there are also gilt designs. A lovely piece, Cauldon made some superb quality pieces but have not yet caught the imagination like Worcester or Coalport.
Condition
Very good decoratively with minimal wear to gilt and paint for period. Some scratches inside the bowl. There is a contained X shape hairline in the body near the base of one of the handles which has browned slightly, this is from body stress as opposed to later damage/impact.
