Antique Coalport China Japanese Grove Blue Bird & Bamboo Coffee Cup & Saucer (Code 1217)
A Coalport china demi tasse coffee cup and saucer in the much sought after 'Japanese Grove' pattern also commonly called Bluebird & Bamboo. It dates around 1880 to the late Victorian period and is very much in keeping with the popular Aesthetic style of the time and has the lovely underglaze blue design with gilt overlay for contrast. The coffee can has straight sides with an angular handle and the saucer is quite deeply dished. No makers mark which is common for this design, the cup has the pattern number in gold and the saucer has clay marks.
Very good for period, light wear and a scratches. Gilt mostly intact with surprisingly little wear. Some roughness to the glaze to the underside of the base on the cup from production. Minor firing flaws to foot rim of saucer.
Height: 6 cm ( 2 3/8 inch ) the cup
Width: 14.2 cm ( 5 5/8 inch ) the saucer
Weight: 200 grams (before packing)
