Antique Early 19th Century Heavy & Large Lead Glass Tapered Tumbler (Code 2430)
A large early 19th century lead glass tumbler. It is sturdily made with a heavy base and has tapering sides. It is hand blown and the pontil scar has been ground and polished out of the base. It has good clarity for the period and has quite a good lead content. It would date to the very end of the Georgian period or to the early years of the Victorian. It could have been used for many purposes including spirits or for softer drinks. Early examples like this are quite scarce and far fewer are found compared to rummers of the period.
Some age related wear with surface scratches. Good original wear to the base from use. Impurities in the glass are very low for the period, a nice example.
