Antique Edwardian Battle of Trafalgar Centenary Oak Box with Bronze Mount (Code 1754)
An early 20th centry oak wood box with internal divisions. This nicely made box has six internal divisions and may have been used for cigarettes, cigars etc, or possibly as a games box for counters etc. It has a working brass lock and comes with the key. The lid and base edges are profiles and the underside has been left plain. The lid has a bronze plaque mounted to the top which states Victory 1805, this is of course likely for the battle of Trafalgar. The box construction does not fit for this early period, and it looks Edwardian so it was most likely made for the centenary in 1905 which fits the construction and the reason for the plaque. A nice looking and useful box.
Generally good with minor wear. Minor knocks and small losses around the base edge. A previous owner has added a lid restrainer out of string and two tacks internally. Good surface finish with a satin sheen, waxed and ready for use or display.
