Antique Edwardian Mahogany Drinks Tray - Art Nouveau Glass Bead Coralene Design (Code 1119)
An Edwardian small twin handled tray with glass top and glass bead decoration. Glass beading on vases became popular during the late 19th century and is generally called coralene and a similar technique is employed here. The beads are in a formal pattern which certainly has more than a touch of the Art Nouveau style. The outer frame is mahogany with stringing (probably boxwood) and the handles are brass. It was likely intended as a small drinks tray for serving an individual or couple. No makers label that I can find, but the tray is typically English in style and a very charming piece.
Some shrinkage, re-gluing and damages at the corners of the wood. Normal period wear and aging. Pattern appears in good order. Baize to underside looks like an old replacement.
