Antique George III Derby Porcelain Large Hand Painted Porter Mug with Scenic (Code 2310)
A large early 19th century Derby porcelain porter mug. It has apple green panels and a hand painted scenic to the front. It depicts autumnal trees with water running in the foreground over a weir and a low bridge in the background. The scene is not named but is perhaps of Derbyshire or perhaps Yorkshire. Around the top is a repeating pattern in gilt and there are further gilt details in places. The handle has a thumb rest and feather moulded details. The Derby mark is painted to the underside in red this piece dates in the 1810-20 period making it late George III. Note the treatment of the foliage which has a particular style often seen on Derby scenics of the period.
The porcelain is particularly good for the period with some light crazing, particularly in the thicker accumulations. There is some gilt wear as can be seen. Some scratches to the green panels showing the white glaze beneath.
