Antique George III English Lead Opaque Outline Lace Twist Bell Bowl Wine Glass (Code 1458)
A George III period English lead wine glass. It has a bell shaped bowl and very good clarity for the period. The stem is an opaque twist form and could be perhaps considered an outlined lace twist single series (SSOT) although as you can see in the magnification there is a touch of separation between the central lace and the tapes so it could also perhaps be considered a lace twist with outer pair of corkscrews (a DSOT). An interesting classification conundrum which of course doesn't really matter to the enjoyment of the item. It dates around 1765 and the base of the bowl is solid. The foot is conical and as you would expect the pontil is rough snapped.
Good order, only slight wear and scratches, a nice example.
