Antique Georgian Lemon Squeezer Foot Rummer Glass Etched with a Tea Clipper Ship (Code 2170)
A good quality George III period rummer glass. The bowl is etched with a tea clipper three masted sailing ship. Opposite is etched a wreath and three initials 'JEG' or similar. The bowl is of cup form and there is a merese knop join to the stem. The foot is a tiered lemon squeezer form with square base.
The glass dates around 1800 and is made from English lead glass of a much better quality than usual for this period. Items such as this were often given as love tokens as men could be away at sea for many weeks.
Some chips to the base, almost inevitable for these square foot varieties, but nothing which spoils the item. Very few impurities for the period, high quality lead glass. Some flow lines to the foot from the mould blowing process.
Height: 12.5 cm (4 7/8 inches)
Width: 9.2 cm (3 5/8 inches) across bowl
Weight: 266 grams (before packing).
