Antique Georgian Davenport Pottery Blue & White Barbers Dish - Pearlware c1800 (Code 0893)
An interesting early Davenport blue and white shaped dish. It has the anchor mark to the underside with the 'Davenport' impressed and the date range for this is 1793-1810. The glaze is a pearlware form with a blue tint in the accumulations. The pattern is of a countryside scene with two works conversing and an Elizabethan house in the background.
The shape of the dish is unusual, and it is expected that this form was used by barbers or barber surgeons. Certainly an interesting early piece..
Good for period especially considering it is 200+ years old. Minor chip to underside rim and one to the top left edge. A couple of small chips and discolouration to the foot rim. Some period wear and crazing which has darkened in limited spots. Usual minor glaze flaws from production with some kiln dust etc.
