Antique Georgian Regency Bronze Pastille Incense Burner with Naturalistic Knop (Code 2673)
A late Regency period bronze pastille burner. It has a tripod base with ball feet and the body has been formed to resemble a Grecian urn. The knop is formed in naturalistic style and the lid is pierced with holes to allow the incense to infuse the room. There are also holes in the base to provide air flow for the pastille or incense. An attractive compact example.
Just as today these items were used for burning sweet smelling incense which came in a form called pastilles at the time. Today you could also use it for the intended purpose or enjoy as a decorative object or desk ornament.
Very good for period, a nice patina has developed as seen in the images. Some minor rubbing to the high points and some darker patches areas. One foot slightly bent towards the inside.
