A pair of Georgian Regency period wine coasters in lacquered papier mache. These examples are magnum sized and so suitable for larger bottles of wine and decanters as well as standard sizes. They also have strengthening white metal bands around the foot rims which is a feature I haven't seen before. They feature a black ground and hand painted gilt designs of fruiting vines which is rather apt. They date around 1820 to the transition between George III and George IV.
Some wear and losses to the lacquer surface around the rim and to the interior bases. Some colour variation in the gold (where the lacquer is thicker and aging has affected it). Original base felts. Normal age related knocks and scratches. See images for general condition.
