Inside the lid is a strike plate and he interior is gilded. It stands on ball feet and is mounted on alabaster. No makers marks, but probably French in origin and mid 19th century in date - perhaps Palais Royale. It would also make a fine trinket box.
Some wear to the gilt and general wear and aging in keeping with the period. Minor flaws and nibbles to the base with a hairline where one of the nuts attaches the body to the alabaster.
