Antique Tooled Leather Jewellery Box with Gold & Red Detail and Velvet Interior (Code 1008)
A lovely late 19th or early 20th century leather covered jewellery box. The exterior is in fine gilt tooled leather with a formalised pattern of stylised leaves and flower forms. The box itself is wooden and the base is stained sea green. The interior is lined in green velvet and the visible wood is again stained a sea green colour. There are two small brass hinges, no lock, the lid holding in place by friction. To the top of the box is a dedication to 'Hilda'. It is likely of English production around 1890-1910 and is of a high standard of manufacture.
Leather surprisingly good for period, typical wear with scuffs and scratches but no major faults. Slight losses to leather around base, lines visible where leather has been joined, leather edge lifting slightly at one corner. See images for overall surface condition.
