Antique Indian Silver Trinket/Desk Box with Elephants, Lions & Wild Animals (Code 0919)
A delightful 19th century Indian silver box with wild animals including lions and elephants. The box is of rectangular form with curved panels of repousse work. The lid is hinged and the lift tab is in cyma form. All four sides and the lid have the animal friezes with just the base being plain. The walls are quite thick for it's type giving it a good weight for it's size. Inside there is a mark to the lid which is indistinct but may read qq1 or 991. Date wise it is likely in the 1860-70 region. It was likely intended as a trinket box or for small items on a desk etc.
Generally good with no significant faults. Normal period wear. Hinge works fine, slight dents to lid edges.
