Antique Indian Sterling Silver Repousse Jug with Village Scene, Calcutta Region (Code 2552)
A colonial period silver jug for milk or cream decorated with repousse work and a textured ground. It comes from India, probably from the Calcutta region and depicts a village scene with shack type building and a squatting figure with bowl. The other side features an elephant uprooting a tree. Marked Silver Sterling to the base and tests as marked.
Very good for period with minor wear. A couple of slight knocks to the rim. Scratches to the base. Original jointing line from production to the rim (by handle) visible as a faint line.
