Antique Siamese Silver Thabeik Repousse Bowl with Stylised Animals (Code 1809)
A Siamese (modern day Thailand) silver bowl profusely decorated with panels of animals including a rabbit and a snake. Originally these were used as alms or offering bowls, but they were also made for decoration and export. Around the rim is a gallery style pattern and the panels are arranged in cartouche form. To the base are markings in pointillism form, which appear to be Thai. It is marked for 700% which would relate to the silver % (700 parts per 1000 in this case), and testing does confirm this is about right. Dates to the late 19th or early 20th century. A great look and a stylish piece..
General period wear. Slight knocks and deformations to rim.
Height 5 cms ( 2 inches )
Width 9.3 cms ( 3 5/8 inches )
