Antique Indo-Portuguese Goan Silver Filigree Wire Flip Top Cigarette/Card Case (Code A264)
A 19th century silver filigree flip top cigarette case. These items were most commonly from the Indo-Portuguese Goan region, but also seem to come from the Indo-Persian and Deccan regions during the 19th century. The top flips down using a simple friction clasp and arm hinges. Originally it would likely have been for cigarettes or similar. It is unmarked, and these pieces are generally made of a grade of silver below the Sterling standard. The wires are of flattened form and vary in thickness depending on the part of the pattern they are creating, some are pretty fine as can be seen. A lovely looking piece, and now becoming scarce.
Normal age related wear, a few knocks and dings, but nothing problematic or which spoils the look. Catch and hinges work fine.
