Antique Japanese Antimony Ware Lockable Dragon Box - Taisho/Showa (Code 2765)
An early 20th century Japanese box made from antimony. It has a high relief design of a dragon coiled around the lid and there are chrysanthemum type flowers around the sides. The box is lockable and the lock is still working fine. The lid features two kanji, the one on the right is 福 (good fortune), the leftmost one is likely similar although I can't make it out with the handle obscuring part of the character.
From the colours it looks like this example was double plated with a grey base then a bright silver top coat, and as is typical with antimony ware most of the plating has worn over the years. Dates to the late Taisho or early Showa period.
Plating worn as typical for antimony ware. Key likely not original but works fine. Black felt lining is someones later addition. Scuffs to the base.
